Paul DeGeorge says: I recommend that you come see Free Music, a performer from Minneapolis with a band name so generic it makes their music virtually impossible to find online. There's something compelling about this willful approach to obscurity at this moment in time when the majority of recorded music has become instantly accessible. As I was passing out flyers I was also reminded of how difficult this band name makes it on the promoter. “No, sorry, the show isn’t free, that’s just the name of the performer.” I’m not salty about it. It’s a simple, beautiful, and bold declaration. A mission statement encapsulated in a two-word band name.

I first saw Free Music play in an old fire station in Worcester, MA: a completely transfixing live performance that was funny and chaotic and involved synthesizers, found sounds, and a Minidisc 8-track machine. The last time I saw a performance, I felt like I was watching an NPR host soothingly narrate the audience through a tutorial on the synthesizer patches of the Yamaha DX7: a deconstruction of music and sound, both educational and hilarious. I think you’ll really love this show.

Jackson Graham is a percussionist from Lawrence, Kansas who will be filling Wonder Gallery with the enthralling sounds of his vibraphone.
